Gaps happen — layoffs, caregiving, health, plain bad luck. How to present one without apology, and where the explanation actually belongs.

Post-2020, career gaps are ordinary. What sinks candidates isn't the gap — it's the visible discomfort with it. The playbook is: brief, factual, forward-looking.
The mechanics
- Use years or add a line — either format the dates so a 5-month gap doesn't scream, or name it plainly: 'Career break — family care, 2025'.
- Fill it honestly if you can — courses, freelance, volunteering all count as a line.
- Prepare the 20-second answer — what happened, what you did, why you're ready now. Said once, calmly, then move on.
