Public speaking for introverts: small reps, big career gains

Visibility compounds like interest, and speaking is its highest-yield form. A gradual exposure ladder that never requires becoming an extrovert.

The careers that stall are often the quiet ones — not for lack of skill, but of visibility. Speaking is learnable exposure by exposure, and introverts often end up the best at it: they prepare.

The ladder

• Rung 1: ask one prepared question in a meeting.
• Rung 2: present a 5-minute update to your own team.
• Rung 3: demo something to another team.
• Rung 4: internal brown-bag talk. Rung 5: a meetup or conference lightning talk.

Each rung is barely harder than the last. Six months of rungs beats years of 'I'm just not a speaker'.
